Water Damage Insurance Claim Help
Water damage insurance claim help means clean records. Photos, moisture logs, receipts and the cause in writing make a claim easy to read and hard to deny.
What a contractor can and cannot do
A drying crew can document the damage, write an estimate and share readings with your adjuster. It cannot represent you or negotiate your claim. Regulators have issued cease and desist orders to contractors who acted like public adjusters. If you want someone to argue your claim, that is a licensed public adjuster or an attorney.
Build the file
- Photos and video of every room before cleanup, then during and after.
- The cause in writing, such as a plumber's note naming the failed part.
- Daily moisture readings and the equipment list.
- A list of damaged items with age and what you paid.
- Receipts for any hotel, meals or emergency costs.
- A log of every call with your insurer, with the date and name.
What is usually covered
Triple I says sudden discharge from plumbing or appliances is a covered peril on most policy forms. Flood is excluded from standard home, condo and renters policies. Sewer backup is not covered unless you added it. Damage from poor upkeep is not covered. That is why the cause and the date matter so much.
If the claim stalls in Nevada
Try to resolve it with your insurer or agent first. If that fails, the Nevada Division of Insurance Consumer Services section can look into it and try to help. Its Las Vegas office is (702) 486-4009. It cannot force coverage, decide the value of a loss or join settlement talks.
